I thought it might be nice given the weather this morning to share some fun facts about Gore-Tex!

What It Is

GORE-TEX® fabric is the registered trademark

name for fabric produced by W.L.

Gore & Associates, Inc., known also as

GORE-TEX Laminates. It is composed of a

white microporous polytetrafluorethylene

membrane (film) known as PTFE, laminated

to a shell fabric and lined with suitable

lining. This membrane contains nine

billion pores per square inch, each 20,000

times smaller than a drop of water, but 700

times larger than a water vapor molecule.

Therefore, the membrane has the ability to

differentiate between water as a vapor (gas)

and water as a liquid. Thus, the presence of

the membrane makes the fabric not only

waterproof but breathable at the same time.

It blocks rain and snow, but allows the

natural body moisture (vapor) to escape to

the outside, providing comfort

Stay dry! And remember: Fabrics can be fun!
